In welcoming this year's Golden Week to celebrate modern China, team lululemon Shanghai hosted over 200 yogi's to sweat off the mooncakes from Mid-Autumn Festival. Every year, the majority of the Chinese travel domestically and overseas for the seven-day Golden Week holiday, unplug from technology, unwind on a beach somewhere to indulge in some holiday festivities. So, what better way to get bikini-ready bodies than to come out and sweat together?
Our Shanghai Xintanti Showroom Manager, Jen, tells us how the day unfolded.
The event, feel better naked, was hosted at the beautiful Sigma Film Club, which is a members-only film club right along Shanghai's waterfront screening at the city's iconic skyline. We pumped up the heart rates with some of our favourite yoga teachers at Y+ Yoga (kudos Chops, Lynn, and Mandy), followed by a high-energy Heyrobics routine led by co-founder Linus and his team. Did you know that Heyrobics is the number one most popular sport in Sweden? Well now you do.
What the heck is Heyrobics? Today, the local version of Heyrobics ( aka “Jympa”) is the biggest non-competitive workout in Sweden with more than six per cent of the Swedish population as active members. It's an updated version of the classic Swedish exercise - essentially you keep fit through a 1-hour workout performed by a single leader, with easy-to-follow movements for the whole body. Think push-ups, sit-ups, jumps, stretches and a lot of high-fives led by a super energetic Swedish dude. The hour of sweaty fun is really a scientific method, used for both getting fit, as well as recovery from sports injuries.
We were so blessed to see such a crowd coming out to celebrate the Golden Week holidays with us. Now, needless to say, we all felt a tiny bit less guilty indulging in various gluttony and pleasures over the break, or perhaps we justified another yoga event is needed post-vacation?
